Chanteur, producteur, compositeur, Joe Yorke grandit dans le nord ouest de l’Angleterre, à quelque kilomètres de Wigan, durant les années 90. Son parcours musical prend source au coeur de son adolescence. Séduit par les productions reggae et punk qui lui arrivent alors aux oreilles, il se plonge dans ces deux styles, se met à la guitare et joue ses morceaux préférés dans les rues de Wigan et Manchester. Quelques années plus tard, en 2006, il découvre la scène soundsystem UK lors d’un pèlerinage à Notting Hill. Cette première escapade au Carnaval le marque à jamais et confirme son envie de rejoindre le mouvement.
Alors qu’il approche de ses vingt ans, Joe Yorke s’installe à Manchester et s’investit sans retenue dans le milieu dub et reggae. Il y rencontre le producteur, parolier et multi- instrumentiste Eeyun Purkins avec qui il collabore toujours très étroitement aujourd’hui. Ensemble ils jouent pour le «Black Star Dub Collective» et participent à des jam sessions du côté de Hulme. Ils s’y font la main en y côtoyant les plus talentueux musiciens locaux de la communauté reggae. En parallèle, Joe prend part au projet Conscious Youth Soundsystem et assiste à de nombreuses dances, notamment celles des Nucleus Roots auprès de qui il tire de multiples enseignements.
Le live d’un côté, le soundsystem de l’autre : Joe Yorke a très tôt embrassé la scène reggae dans son ensemble. Portée par son timbre de voix remarquable, sa musique repose sur de solides bases roots, rocksteady et dub Jamaïcain. Mais ses influences se trouvent aussi bien dans la soul, la northern soul, la new wave, le dub techno et la musique concrète.
Aujourd’hui établi à Bristol et à la tête du son propre label Rhythm Steady, Joe agite la reggae sphère internationale avec ses prestations live à couper le souffle. En tant que chanteur / producteur il s’est fait un véritable nom sur la scène soundsystem ce qui l’a amené à jouer pour le Dub Camp Festival, le Rototom, le Boomtown, L’International Dub Gathering, Dour, le Dub Station Festival, les deux No Logo Festivals et de nombreux autres évènements. On l’a récemment entendu chanter sur scène ou en soundsystem aux côtés de Stand High Patrol, Biga*Ranx et O.B.F. Il a également partagé l’affiche avec Sister Nancy, Hollie Cook et Johnny Osbourne…
Avec une discographie forte d’une vingtaine de sorties tous supports confondus, dont quelques pépites enregistrées pour The Co-Operators et plusieurs singles produits en collaboration avec Stand High Patrol, Joe Yorke s’est également fait une belle place dans les bacs ! Après la sortie remarquée de son premier album «Noise And Emptiness» aux orientations UK Dub / Uk Roots à l’automne 2022, il dévoilait « A Distant Beat » au printemps 2023 : un second LP aux accents Rocksteady / Roots enregistré avec The Co-Operators. Quelques mois plus tard, en plein automne 2023, il présentait un tout nouveau live et un troisième album baigné d’influences soul baptisé: «Hopeless». Depuis les collaborations s’enchainent à bon rythme comme en témoigne ses sorties récentes avec Stand High Patrol, Gentleman’s Dub Club et l’Entourloop !

Hailing from the North-West of England, singer and composer Joe Yorke found his true love for music during his teenage years. Seduced by Punk, Folk and Reggae music, he started diving into the styles and after learning guitar he was a common sight on the streets of Wigan and Manchester busking his favourite songs. In 2006, he went to the Notting Hill Carnival and experienced the UK’s soundsystem scene for the first time. Shaken and moved by the sounds in the streets of the famous north London festival, his desire to become a part of the movement was galvanised.
He moved to Moss Side, Manchester, in his late teens and started to get fully immersed in the Dub and Reggae scene centred around the Junction pub and The Big Western. Spending his days working a day job alongside producer, songwriter and multi- instrumentalist Eeyun Purkins, and his nights shaping songs in studios across the city a musical partnership was born. They both played in a band called “Black Star Dub Collective” and took part in weekly jam sessions in Hulme. This training ground exposed Joe to a lot of talented musicians from the local reggae community. Around this time, Joe joined “Conscious Youth” and alongside his comrades met Nucleus Roots’ Paul Lush, from whom they learn many valuable lessons.
Fusing live music on the one hand and soundsystem on the other, Joe Yorke embraces the full spectrum of the Reggae scene. His musical foundation comes from Jamaican Rocksteady and Dub but he also takes a strong influence in Soul, Northern Soul, New Wave, Dub Techno and Concrete music.
Today, Joe is based in Bristol, where he operates his own label, Rhythm Steady. Over the past few years, he has been making waves in the reggae sphere with his extraordinary vocal style. As a singer/producer, he has established a strong reputation on the soundsystem stage, leading him to perform at the Dub Camp Festival, Dour, Rototom, Boomtown, International Dub Gathering, Dub Station Festival, both No Logo Festivals, and many other events. He has recently been heard singing on stage or on soundsystems alongside Stand High Patrol, Biga*Ranx, and O.B.F.
With a discography boasting around twenty releases across various formats, including some gems recorded with The Co-Operators and several singles produced in collaboration with Stand High Patrol, Joe Yorke has also secured a significant presence in Dj’s record boxes! Following the noteworthy release of his UK Dub/UK Roots debut album “Noise And Emptines” in the autumn of 2022, he unveiled “A Distant Beat” in the spring of 2023: a second LP with Rocksteady/Roots undertones recorded with The Co-Operators. Just a few months later, in the midst of autumn 2023, he introduces a brand new live show and a third album steeped in soul influences titled “Hopeless”. Since then, collaborations have been coming one after another at a steady pace, as shown by his recent releases with Stand High Patrol, Gentleman’s Dub Club, and L’Entourloop!
